What is wrong with people these days?
As you may have heard, I am trying to put together a podcast. I want to interview local musicians and bands and get their ideas on how to rejuvenate the music scene in and around Melle.
It may just be my personal perception, but the band scene in my area is practically non-existent. There are a few survivors from the eighties still doing the rounds, but young and upcoming bands are few and far between.
There may be good reasons for the lack of motivation among young people these days, and I can understand the problems they may be facing. As an active musician myself, I am constantly faced with the problem of finding venues to play.
You would think that the older bands and musicians in Melle would be interested in supporting young bands and helping them with their projects. You would think that music teachers would support some kind of initiative to bring life back into the music scene in Melle. Sadly, this is far from the case.
The response I got when I approached bands and people to come on my podcast and just bounce some ideas around was disappointing. Most of them are very reluctant, the vast majority don’t even reply to my messages.
It seems I have a lot of work to do with this project. But as a father of young children who have recently shown an interest in learning guitar, ukulele and keyboard, it is my job to support them and give them the best possible start in their musical journey.
To be honest, I wouldn’t even know where to start if they ever asked me, „Dad, we need a place to practice. Do you know where the nearest band practice rooms are?“
This coming Wednesday I will be talking to the guys from Ivory about this and other things. It seems that it’s the old guard that has to see this thing through to the end…
